Flo: five features free, seven in the subscription
On its own comparison page, Flo lists twelve features and marks each as free or Premium. Free are:
- Period and ovulation predictions
- Logging symptoms
- Calendar
- Cycle history
- Anonymous mode
Behind the paywall are:
- Daily health stories – the personalised daily tips
- The library of articles, videos and audio
- The health assistant, Flo's chatbot
- Flo for Partners, sharing with a partner
- Cycle trends – the analysis of your own history
- Personalised expert medical content
- Detailed pregnancy tracking
Flo describes its approach unusually openly in its help section: premium features are blocked by paywalls, and offers appear via splash screens, pop-ups and notifications. If you dismiss them, you keep using the free version.
Clue: interpreting costs extra
For Clue Plus, Clue lists essentially eight points:
- Extended cycle predictions – period, PMS and fertile window up to twelve months ahead
- Full access to the content section
- Data visualisation for spotting patterns
- Clue Connect for sharing your cycle
- Unlimited custom tracking categories
- Personalised reminders
- The Conceive, Pregnancy and Perimenopause modes
- Further analysis views
Contrary to what is often claimed, Clue is not funded by advertising – the company itself says it doesn't make money that way. The subscription really is the source of income there, not an extra on top of ads.
The pattern: logging is free, understanding costs
Put the two lists side by side and the same cut shows. Keeping the diary is free – logging your period, ticking symptoms, looking at the calendar, getting a prediction. What costs money is interpreting: what your logged data says about you.
Flo calls this “cycle trends”, Clue “data visualisation” and “extended predictions”. Both mean the analysis of your own history. Clue also puts personalised reminders in the subscription.
From a business point of view this makes sense: the diary keeps users, the analysis gains value every month – and that makes it a good moment to ask for money. The only uncomfortable part is that the piece behind the paywall is the very reason people log in the first place.
Where Rhythmus differs
- History is in the free part for us. Cycle lengths, regularity, energy and symptoms by phase – what others charge a subscription for.
- So are reminders. Energy check-in, training days, supplements, at a time you choose.
- Nutrition and training don't exist there at all – not even in the subscription. That's not a price difference but a different focus.
- No account. Your entries are on your device, not on our server. We don't run one.
Where they are better
This belongs here too, otherwise this text would be advertising rather than a comparison. Flo and Clue have editorial teams with experts, week-by-week pregnancy support, dedicated modes for trying to conceive and perimenopause, partner features and predictions many months ahead.
What you can check yourself
You don't have to believe any of this from us. The five-minute test from our article on business models works for any app: check the store listing for in-app purchases, open the privacy label, look for locks in the app, switch on flight mode. For us just as for the others.
Where this information comes from
Everything above comes from the providers themselves, checked on 7 September 2026: Flo's comparison page flo.health/de/flo-premium and Flo's help section, as well as helloclue.com/clue-plus and Clue's help section. Prices and features change; if in doubt, what they say counts, not what we say here.
